• Jacob Wohl is a 20-year-old conservative conspiracy theorist famous for his pro-Trump Twitter personality.
• Before that, he gained notoriety for running a financial fund using money from people in his high school, which ended when he was banned from securities trading.
• Wohl was recently implicated in an alleged plot to take down Special Counsel Robert Mueller. The plot involved paying off women to fabricate sexual assault allegations against him.

Jacob Wohl is an accomplished young man.

Only 20, he's already been sanctioned by the Arizona Corporation Commission, investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission, and may soon be the subject of an FBI investigation.

He's also one of President Donald Trump's biggest supporters.

On Monday, Wohl dominated the news when he was reportedly linked to a plot to take down Special Counsel Robert Mueller by paying off a woman to fabricate sexual assault allegations. Mueller's office found out about the plan and referred the matter to the FBI.

But who exactly is Jacob Wohl? Where did he come from? And how did he get involved in presidential punditry and political dirty tricks?

Jacob Wohl became famous on Twitter for constantly tweeting at Trump

If you've ever clicked through one of Trump's tweets and looked at the replies, there's a good chance you'll find Wohl there.

He first made his name on Twitter in the early days of Trump's presidency by incessantly replying to almost every tweet and touting his unflagging support. In the replies of almost any Trump tweet you'll find Wohl lavishing praise and spreading conspiracy theories.

Through his replies to Trump, Wohl's own tweets frequently went viral, and he ultimately built his own following, which now hovers around 179,000. It didn't hurt that Trump himself sometimes retweets Wohl's praise.

Wohl then built his Twitter punditry into a larger media career. He's been on Fox Business news and writes for the Gateway Pundit, a far-right propaganda site that frequently publishes hoaxes and conspiracy theories.

He also started his own publication, Offended America, which was later renamed to The Washington Reporter. It's most famous for apparently plagiarizing its code of ethics from the investigative journalism publication ProPublica. He also has a YouTube channel where he espouses conspiracy theories, such as the false claim popular on the right that people in the movie industries are covering up a massive pedophilia ring.

Before all that, Wohl was implicated in alleged financial fraud

Wohl wasn't always famous for being a Trump supporter. When he was a student at Santiago High School in Corona, California, he ran a money management group called Wohl Capital Investment Group. He told Bloomberg that he took investments from fellow students, teachers, and the school principal — and ultimately raised around $500,000 from people around the country. He called himself the "Wohl of Wall Street."

It didn't work out. One client, David Diedrich, alleged that Wohl told him his $75,000 investment increased to more than $89,000. But when he asked for the funds, Wohl sent him a check for just $44,000, according to Bloomberg.

Diedrich filed a complaint with the National Futures Association, which regulates derivatives trading. Other investors filed complaints to the Arizona Corporation Commission, saying that Wohl misrepresented the scope and operations of his funds. In some promotional materials, for example, Wohl said he had nine years of trading experience, which meant he would have been working in financial markets since he was eight years old.

In 2017, The National Futures Association banned Wohl from NFA membership for life. A few months later, the Arizona Corporation Committee ordered him and a business partner, Matthew Johnson, to pay a $5,000 penalty for committing securities fraud, also alleging they illegally participated in a house-flipping scheme. The committee also ordered Wohl to pay $32,918 in restitution.

"Wohl and Johnson, posted advertisements on Craigslist in connection with a promissory note offering to fund a house-flipping venture, making several misrepresentations regarding company size, the experience of the employees, and risk associated with the investment,"the committee said in a statement. "The Commission found that Wohl, Johnson, and their affiliated companies were not licensed to provide investment advice or registered to offer and sell securities in Arizona."

The federal Securities and Exchange Commission also investigated Wohl's businesses, according to Bloomberg. But it ultimately decided not to take any enforcement action, according to a document from July 2017 Wohl provided to the financial news site Benzinga.

Wohl is also known for tweets in which he claimed to have overheard liberals quietly supporting Trump 

One famous genre of Wohl tweet is where he purports to be at a local "hipster coffee shop" and overhears people on the left secretly conspire to support Republicans. He's tweeted variations on this same idea several times over.

Where is this coffee shop? Are all these tweets about the same one? Wohl didn't immediately respond to INSIDER's requests for comment.

It's possible that Wohl doesn't take his own tweets seriously. He tweeted out a link to a Daily Dot article making fun of him for the trope in July.

Wohl's currently embroiled in a scandal over possibly creating false sexual assault claims against Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

This week, Wohl was reportedly connected to a plot to take down Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Records show that Wohl appears to run the company Surefire Intelligence. Along with the right-wing lobbyist Jack Burkman, Surefire Intelligence offered women five figures to falsely accuse Mueller of sexual assault, according to NBC News and The Atlantic. Despite the fact that Surefire's phone number is registered to Wohl's mother, Wohl maintains he has no connection to Surefire Intelligence.

Wohl published documents that purport to prove the allegations on The Gateway Pundit on Tuesday. But Jim Hoft, the conspiracy theorist who runs the site, retracted the article and said he'd address the allegations against Wohl on Thursday.

Mueller referred the case to the FBI for investigation, and legal experts told Business Insider that Wohl could face charges that include obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and false statements.

Meanwhile, Wohl continues to push the baseless theory that Mueller sexually assaulted women. Like President Trump and other right-wing media figures, he views the special counsel investigation into Russian election interference as illegitimate.

If the FBI launches an investigation into Wohl, he won't have to look far for a lawyer. In addition to being a Trump surrogate himself, David Wohl, Jacob's father, is a criminal defense attorney.

US forces are currently participating in the largest NATO war games in decades, practicing storming the beaches in preparation for a fight against a tough adversary like Russia.

The Trident Juncture 2018 joint military exercises involve roughly 50,000 troops, as well as 250 aircraft, 65 ships, and 10,000 vehicles. During the exercises, US Marines, supported by Navy sailors, rehearsed amphibious landings in Alvund, Norway in support of partner countries.

A landing exercise on Oct. 29 consisted of a combined surface/air assault focused on rapidly projecting power ashore. During the training, 700 Marines with the Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Division took the beach with 12 amphibious assault vehicles, six light armored vehicles, and 21 high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles. 

The Marines conducted another assault, which can be seen in the video below, the following day.

• Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Thursday via Twitter that an upcoming software update will allow Tesla owners to drive their cars with their phones in some situations.
• "Car will drive to your phone location & follow you like a pet if you hold down summon button on Tesla app," Musk said.

The forthcoming updates follow the introduction last week of a new Autopilot feature, called Navigate on Autopilot, that can recommend lane changes, navigate transitions between highways, and take exits, with driver supervision. Autopilot can also keep a car in its lane and adjust its speed based on surrounding traffic, among other features.

In early October, Consumer Reports released its rankings of four semi-autonomous driver assistance systems. The publication ranked Autopilot second, behind Cadillac's Super Cruise. Autopilot received the highest rating for capability and performance and ease of use but received the lowest rating for keeping drivers engaged.

• Hims, a men's health startup know for selling generic Viagra and hair-loss medications, now wants to help women facing similar issues.
• Known as Hers, the brand will offer skin, hair, and sexual wellness products — including Addyi, the first FDA-approved sexual dysfunction medication for women. 
• It's coming at a time when direct-to-consumer healthcare companies that promise to diagnose and treat conditions like erectile dysfunction and hair loss are exploding, launching into new conditions and attracting more than $660 million in funding. 

From the day men's health startup Hims launched in November 2017, CEO Andrew Dudum told Business Insider, he got asked the question: where's the women's version?

Exactly a year later, Hims has an answer. 

Known as Hers, the brand will offer skin, hair, and sexual wellness products — including Addyi, the first FDA-approved sexual dysfunction medication for women, and birth control. It complements the areas Hims has gotten into for men, including selling generic Viagra and hair-loss medications.

Healthcare startups like Hims are increasingly expanding into new treatment areas. Simple Contacts, whose first business provides eye exams and ships contact lenses, is moving into birth control. Ro, the startup behind men's health company Roman now wants to help you quit smoking through a new business called Zero. And the company behind hair-loss brand Keeps in October expanded into migraine treatments.

Investors are wagering that consumers will be increasingly willing to shop for healthcare the same way they buy mattresses or fancy wool sneakers online. To date, Hims has raised $97 million in funding, including a $50 million series B raised in June.

How it works

Through the new service, Hers will link up consumers to doctors who can prescribe the medications online.

But the company won't take insurance for any of its products. While insurance often doesn't cover drugs for hair loss or sexual desire, health insurers are required to cover birth control under the Affordable Care Act. Through Hers' service, birth control pills will cost about $30 a month, including a doctor's visit, getting the prescription through the mail, and additional follow-up services.

The Hers service will be going up against companies that do take insurance, including Nurx and Simple Health, 

When Business Insider's Erin Brodwin tested out Nurx, the entire experience was free when using her insurance. 

"One of the things we learned pretty early on is that insurance is exceptionally complicated," Hims CEO Dudum said. He hopes that by providing drugs at a price patients will be able to afford, it will increase access to the prescriptions.

A 'more refined' sister brand

There's at least one big difference between Hims and Hers. Instead of the tongue-in-cheek advertisements that the Hims brand is known for, Hers will take a different direction.

Hers brand lead Hilary Coles told Business Insider that within the company, they've been calling it "Hims' more refined, badass older sister."

Addyi was the first treatment approved by the Food and Drug Administration for women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder. Marketed as a drug that could increase the libidos of women who struggle with chronically low sex drives, Addyi quickly earned a predictable nickname: the "female Viagra."

Initially approved in 2015, the drug re-launched in June, at which point Sprout, the company behind Addyi, decided to offer it directly to consumers.

That is, while women can still go to their doctor's office if they choose, they also have the option to speak with a physician virtually to get the drug prescribed. The prescription can then be processed by PillPack, a pharmacy startup that mails prescriptions and is now owned by Amazon, or sent to the woman's local pharmacy.

The medication will still be available that way, and women can also visit doctors in person for the prescription. Addyi will be available for $99 a month, in line with the cash pay maximum the company set when it relaunched the drug. 

While the women's health and wellness markets may look over-saturated, Dudum said that as the team looked into it there weren't as many options on the medical side. 

"The ability to get actual prescription medicine just did not exist," Dudum said. 

Going directly to consumers

Startups like Hims have attracted $662 million in venture funding in the past 12 months, by Business Insider's calculations.

The healthcare industry as a whole has been jockeying to stay competitive as companies realize that patients, used to the consumer experience they're getting from Amazon and Netflix, have higher expectations for their doctor's visit.

That's been a driving force behind mega-deals like Amazon's acquisition of PillPack and CVS Health's merger with Aetna. On-demand healthcare options like urgent care have gained in popularity too.

"There are other ways of actually reaching these people and having their demand be met by a new healthcare or consumer offering," Ambar Bhattacharyya, the managing director of Maverick Ventures who leads the firm's healthcare investments, including a stake in Hims, told Business Insider.

YouTube personality and vlogger Logan Paul riled up controversy this year with several insensitive videos that came under fire, and it cost him.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about mounting a potential comeback, Paul said he lost an estimated $5 million when YouTube removed him from Google's preferred partner program ("Google Preferred") in January after Paul posted a video of a dead body hanging from a tree in Japan's Aokigahara Forest. It's known as "suicide forest" because it's a spot where many have chosen to end their lives.

"I mean, YouTube had to take a stance," Paul reflected. "They're not going to let some kid f--- up their ad platform."

Google Preferred allows brands to sell ads to the top 5% of YouTube creators. Ad revenue is how Paul built most of his video empire, worth an estimated $13 million, according to THR.

The "suicide forest" video was met with immediate backlash, and Paul removed it the day after it was posted. Celebrities like Aaron Paul, who he called his friend before the incident, publicly denounced him.

But Paul wasn't finished provoking criticism. In February, YouTube temporarily suspended all ads from Paul's videos after he uploaded one in which he tasers two dead rats. Prominent YouTubers, such as Casey Neistat and Phillip DeFranco, condemned his actions.

"One of the dumbest things I've ever done in my life," Paul said. "I thought, 'I don't know what to do right now. I'm already hated. I guess I'll give them a reason to dislike me.'"

Paul will turn his attention to podcasting next. He told THR that he built a broadcast studio in his home to record an upcoming podcast called "Impaulsive."

In a recent interview, Todd LaTourrette, a New Mexico-based actor known for his role in "Better Call Saul," spoke honestly about the early days of his acting career.

Speaking to KOB4, LaTourrette said that he wasn't entirely honest about his background before breaking into the entertainment industry. The actor said he cut off his own arm years ago and lied about being a veteran.

"I have a 6 [inch] pirate hook, which attaches in to my black, carbon fiber, prosthetic arm," his Backstage profile reads."Other attachments include: a stainless steel claw, wooden hand, and, what I like to refer to as my, "Terminator hand." The fingers do open and close...voluntarily."

LaTourrette, who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, said he was not taking his medication at the time and was in a "psychotic episode."

"I severed my hand with a skill saw," he said. "The state of my mind was a psychotic episode."

But the actor said he got jobs because he cut off his arm.

"The film industry obviously took a different angle," LaTourrette said. "That I was different. And so they liked that."

And that made living a lie more difficult, he told the outlet — which is why decided to tell the truth.

"I was dishonorable. I'm killing my career by doing this, if anyone thinks this was for personal edification, that's not the case," LaTourrette said. "I'm ousting myself from the New Mexico Film Industry. And gladly so, just to say what I've said."

The actor told INSIDER that since coming forward, he has been dropped by his agent. But that doesn't matter to him: he just wants to advocate for mental health.

Google employees around the world are staging a mass walkout Thursday in protest of sexual misconduct.

It follows a bombshell New York Times report last week that named executives who had been accused of sexual misconduct, including Andy Rubin, the creator of the mobile operating system Android. Rubin denied any misconduct.

Thousands of workers are expected to take part in the protest, which calls for people in Google's offices to walk away from their desk at 11 a.m. in their respective time zone. Protesters are using the hashtag #GoogleWalkout. Employees in London, Tokyo, and Berlin are among those to have already taken part.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai said he supported the protests and was listening to his staff. "We are aware of the activities planned for Thursday and that employees will have the support they need if they wish to participate," he said.

• Ben Lupo, 31, is one of the most popular broadcasters on Twitch, the Amazon-owned service that lets people live-stream themselves playing video games to an online audience.
• We talked to Lupo over the phone to learn more about how he got to where he is today.

Ben Lupo sat in the basement of his house, in his favorite chair, watching home movies.

It was around 9 a.m. His father, James, had just passed away a few hours earlier. He had suffered a heart attack while alone in his office at Creighton University, where he'd worked as a professor of psychology for 40 years. He was 68 years old.

"I basically sat there and bawled my eyes out," Lupo told me on the phone, recalling that morning.

Lupo said he sat in his chair for over two hours before he did the only thing he knew how to do in that moment.

"I kicked the stream on, with no alerts, no webcam, no nothing," he said. "I just sat, and I played 'Fortnite,' and I talked. I talked for a little bit, and I cried for a little bit. It was the only thing I knew to do to escape from my own mental black hole."

Lupo, 31, is one of the most popular broadcasters on Twitch, the Amazon-owned service that lets people live-stream themselves playing video games. On Twitch, where he is known as "DrLupo," the Omaha, Nebraska native has over 2.5 million followers; thousands of people watch his channel at any given moment.

Lupo says he plays video games on Twitch for around 80 hours a week — a little over 11 hours per day.

Lupo is also popular among other Twitch streamers, who showed their support on the morning of his father's death along with the thousands of other messages from fans and viewers.

Twitch is full of smaller, tight-knit communities focused on specific games, but many people watch Lupo regardless of what he's playing, whether it's "Destiny 2" or "Fortnite" or "Call of Duty." Perhaps that's because so many people, through watching his daily game streams, have come to know Lupo for the person he is, and not just the entertainer in front of the camera.

One of Lupo's biggest supporters is Tyler "Ninja" Blevins, the most popular streamer on Twitch and one of the biggest names in the world of gaming.

Lupo and Blevins met while playing "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" against each other: Lupo perfectly lobbed a grenade that killed Tyler, who then messaged him afterwards offering to play "duos" together. Lupo called it "the luckiest stroke of my life"— Ninja's massive viewership on Twitch helped Lupo grow his own nascent channel to where it is today, and his real-life friendship with Blevins "feels like family."

Lupo, similarly, treats his viewers like family. He regularly opens up on camera; when he's not thanking donors and subscribers, he's talking about his life, his schedule that day, his wife Samantha, his three-year-old son, or his exciting work opportunities coming up. Watching his Twitch stream feels less like watching a random gamer play a game, and more like hearing from an old friend.

Lupo grew up playing games with others. As the youngest of four — all boys — his three older brothers turned him onto tabletop games like "Dungeons and Dragons" and "Warhammer 40,000." Lupo even remembers his mother, Regina, playing Tetris with him on his NES every morning before taking him to kindergarten.

But their father, James, rarely joined in on the fun. He was more into solo activities, like playing solitaire or reading one of the hundreds of science-fiction and fantasy books he collected over the years. And even when he played games, Lupo says he chose single-player titles like "The Sims."

"He always kind of watched from afar," Lupo said. "He didn't like fast-paced stuff because his brain just wasn't wired that way; gaming was never a thing for him when he was younger."

Lupo said his father grew to appreciate games, though, especially in his later years and as his son pursued a career on Twitch. On one occasion, Lupo, his father, and a handful of family members all played a game called "Starbound" together — and his father had a blast. "I stood up a server and we all had fun playing it," Lupo said. "It took my dad until he was in his 60s to ever play something with us like that. It was silly and fun, and I do desperately miss that."

The elder Lupo didn't understand Twitch at first, but gradually came to appreciate it when he saw how many people were watching his son play games like "Fortnite." The day before James passed away, Lupo called his father from a Target store and told him that he'd planned on streaming a phone game that weekend. "Where was this when I was your age?" Lupo's father asked him over the phone. "How did you get so lucky?"

"I could tell he was super proud of me, and that meant a lot," Lupo said. "There's a big portion of my career where I would've loved to hear what his thoughts about it were."

In 2007, Lupo was heading over to his friend's duplex to watch a movie: the Star Trek film "The Wrath of Khan," but the Rifftrax version, where audio commentary (from the people who made "Mystery Science Theatre 3000") is played over the movie for comedic effect.

When Lupo arrived at the duplex, though, he spotted a woman outside yelling at her car because it wouldn't start.

This was Samantha.

One brief meeting and 11 years later, Samantha and Ben are happily married — for eight years now, since 2010.

"We still make the same jokes, still act the same way, we're still the same people, and I'd be frustrated actually if that ever changed," he said. "Being married to my best friend is still being married to my best friend. But now, she gets to watch the stream, and she's part of the business."

In addition to her work as a photographer, Samantha also manages Lupo's Twitch channel, fielding inquiries and overseeing the entire "DrLupo" operation. The two also have a son together: three-year-old Charlie.

Charlie has already appeared on Lupo's Twitch stream numerous times, as a cameo and an occasional participant in games like "Fortnite," and Lupo says he's excited to get his son more into video games when he's old enough to appreciate them.

"I’m making him play through my generations," Lupo said. "If you stick a kid in front of all of these super-high resolution games with tons of polygons — put him front of 'Fortnite' — he won’t appreciate back when it was 8-bit, and all the audio was done on MIDI. It sounded like butt but it was what we had, and we appreciated it! I want him to have an appreciation for the history of how I got to where I am now. He’ll play Nintendo’s entire lineup before he starts getting too crazy."

He also said he would have no qualms about Charlie getting into game-streaming — the Lupo family business, perhaps — if that's what his son wanted to do when he's old enough.

"If he was serious about it, what is there to warn him against? If he’s not an idiot, it’s easy," Lupo said. "If he’s serious about it, and wanted to give it a try once he was of age, and he actually had intent to do it and do something positive with it, then it would be ridiculous of me to say no. Because why would you say no? Why not just let him try?"

• Although benchmark tests aren't perfect, the scores still underscore how powerful Apple's chips have gotten.
• Apple's new iPad Pro costs $799 and will hit stores next Wednesday. 

If you want the most powerful computer, you're usually looking for a laptop or desktop — after all, those are computers that can do "real work," often powered by high-performance Intel chips.

But Apple's new iPad Pro, which was announced on Tuesday, has a processor that's nearly as fast as high-end laptops, according to an early Geekbench score, which tests processor speeds. 

The iPad Pro's 5030 Geekbench single-core speed score is not too far behind the 5053 score a current-generation 15-inch MacBook Pro with an Intel Core i7 processor earns, as pointed out by MacRumors. 

The new tablet falls a little behind on a multiple-core score, even though it has eight cores. It got a 18,106 multi-core score from Geekbench, as compared to a 21,351 score for the laptop.

Still, that's an impressive showing for a tablet.

The MacBook costs $2,799 from Apple, versus a starting price of $799 for an 11-inch iPad Pro. There are other specs differences, like RAM and memory, but the comparison still underscores how quickly more affordable mobile computers are catching up with laptops and desktops. 

The other difference is that Apple designs the A-series "A12X Bionic" chip in the iPad Pro — Intel is the company that makes the Core i7 in the laptop.

The rapid improvement in Apple's own chips might explain why company executives didn't want to say "Intel" at its launch event on Tuesday, even though it released new Mac Mini and MacBook Air computers powered by Intel chips. 

Benchmark scores like Geekbench aren't a perfect way to test how fast a computer is, especially when comparing ARM chips like Apple's A-series to Intel's x86-based chips, but they put the computer through a range of tests that simulate how rapidly the computer can perform everyday tasks.

Geekbench scores are what initially revealed that Apple was slowing down iPhones with old batteries. 

Apple has been rumored for years to be building a Mac computer based on one of its own ARM chips, which would enable it to greatly increase battery life at the expense of raw power.

But based on how quickly Apple's chips are improving — many people in the tech industry consider them the leader in high-performance silicon — it might not need to make a raw power trade-off in the near future.

In fact, the new iPad Pro had a 94% higher multi-core score than last year's model. Soon, one of these chips could power a Mac.

Following her breakup with Pete Davidson, Ariana Grande is covering up ink that she got during their whirlwind romance.

On Tuesday, Grande shared a video on her Instagram story of herself and her friends clinking their drinks together. She thanked them for their support, writing:  "I have no words to describe how much I love and am eternally grateful for these human beings who constantly help me turn lemons into lemonade and literally heal me and put me back together."

Eagle-eyed fans noticed that the "reborn" ink (which used to be visible on her left thumb) was covered up by a different design that resembles a feather or fern. 

Grande and Davidson previously got the matching tattoos in June, which is the same month that they reportedly got engaged.

It was also visible on Grande's hand when the couple attended the 2018 MTV VMAs.

Since splitting in early October and calling off their engagement, Grande and Davidson have started concealing ink. At a recent performance to celebrate "Wicked's" 15-year Broadway anniversary, the "God Is a Woman" singer wore a Band-Aid to hide her "Pete" tattoo. 

The "Saturday Night Live" star was the first to cover up Grande-inspired tattoos, beginning with the "Dangerous Woman" ink that he got on his neck. During a comedy event, Davidson also joked about his track record of getting ink inspired by his relationships.

Prior to dating Grande, he was with actress Cazzie David and got an image of her tattooed on his arm. He later got it covered up before entering into a relationship with Grande.

"Um, I've been covering a bunch of tattoos, that's fun," Davidson reportedly said. "I'm f---ing zero for two in the tattoo [department]. Yeah, I'm afraid to get my mom tattooed on me, that's how bad it is."

Throughout their short-lived relationship, the young stars got several tattoos.

Davidson has Grande's initials on his thumb, a tattoo on his chest that says "Grande," and the phrase "mille tendresse" on the back of his neck to match one that the "Sweetener" singer has. He also has a tattoo of the pig they got together on his stomach and a small cloud tattoo that Grande also has on her body. 

The "Sweetener" singer also has the badge number of Davidson's late father, who died on 9/11, tattooed on her foot to match the ink that appears on the comedian's arm.

Representatives for Grande didn't immediately respond to INSIDER's request for comment.

This is the first time that the store has had these extended hours. Last year, Target was open from 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day to midnight on Black Friday. The previous year, it opened at 6 p.m. and was closed by 11 p.m. 

A spokesperson for Target did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

Target also announced that shoppers could get early access to Black Friday deals in stores and online for one day: Thursday, November 1.

• It contradicts a claim made anonymously by Saudi officials that Khashoggi's body was rolled up in a carpet and given to a local Turkish collaborator.

Turkish officials are reportedly pursuing a theory that Jamal Khashoggi's body was dissolved in acid after his killing.

The Washington Post on Wednesday cited an unnamed senior Turkish official saying that the body could have been destroyed with chemicals either in the grounds of the Saudi consulate or at the nearby consul-general's home.

Authorities found biological evidence in the consulate garden, the Post reported, which would support the theory that Khashoggi's killers got rid of the journalist's body near where he was killed.

"Khashoggi's body was not in need of burying," the official said, according to the Post.

The news comes as Istanbul's chief prosecutor, Irfan Fidan, said Khashoggi was strangled shortly after he entered the consulate, and his body was dismembered afterward.

The acid theory contradicts a claim by unnamed Saudi officials to Reuters and the Associated Press that Khashoggi's body was wrapped up in some kind of fabric and given to a local Turkish collaborator.

Turkey's prosecutor and president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has demanded that the Saudis reveal the identity of the collaborator.

But so far the Saudis have not publicly mentioned or identified this person. The senior Turkish official told The Washington Post on Wednesday that his country's investigators do not believe this person exists.

Saudi Arabia's chief prosecutor, Saud Al Mojeb, visited Istanbul from Monday to Wednesday this week, ostensibly to share intelligence on the Khashoggi's death and killers.

But Mojeb neither provided the location of Khashoggi's body nor identified a local conspirator.

Turkish authorities may have been pursuing the acid theory for weeks. Two weeks ago Sky News cited an unnamed source close to the investigation as saying that Khashoggi's body might have been destroyed in a "very fast-acting chemical acid."

Other news outlets, including the Guardian, also cited Turkish investigators or officials as saying that Khashoggi's dismembered remains were transported to the official residence of Saudi Arabia's consul in Istanbul, Mohammed al-Otaibi.

• It's incredibly difficult to avoid catching the flu. 
• Experts say the best thing to do is get a flu shot.
• It's also smart to stay home when you feel unwell to keep illnesses from spreading.

In the winter, when the temperature drops, the flu thrives.

As others around us get sick, the close quarters we share with our colleagues can begin to feel like the halls of an infirmary, instead of an office. 

When co-workers begin hacking and sneezing, they spew virus-laden moisture droplets up into the air. Those particles will gladly travel up to six feet away to reach new hosts. Flu viruses can also linger on hard surfaces for as long as 24 hours, just waiting for their next victim. 

Making matters worse, flu viruses spread more easily in the dry, cold air that circulates at this time of year.

Veteran flu expert Richard Webby, an infectious disease expert at St Jude Children's Research Hospital who's part of the elite World Health Organization team that develops the annual flu vaccine, shared his best advice on how to keep the flu at arm's length this year. 

"So, that's an easy one," Webby told Business Insider. "The number one tip is the vaccine."

We have lots of hard evidence that vaccines are the best line of defense against the flu

While it may not be surprising that an infectious disease pro who helps decide what goes in the vaccine might think his creation is the best prevention strategy, hard evidence suggests he's right.

Studies show that the flu vaccine reduces the risk of death from the flu by more than 50% for kids, and saves anywhere from 200 to nearly 10,000 lives every year, depending on how bad the flu season shakes out. 

The vaccine is more effective some years than others. "We know the flu vaccine is not the best vaccine that we have," Webby said.

Last year's dose was a particularly poignant example of that: it was only about 25% effective against some of the worst strains of the flu, leading to the worst death toll the US has seen in over four decades.

"But it is effective," Webby said, "and it still is the single most important thing that we can all do." 

The flu season this year isn't expected to be as bad as last year's, and the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control suggests circulating flu levels are very low, though it's still too early in the season to say for sure that this will be a mild year. Vaccine experts also agree that the viruses in the air this year are probably better matched to the flu shots being given out. That's another reason it's likely that we won't see a season as deadly as 2017-18, when 80,000 people died.  

"We lost more children last year from flu deaths than any year before, since we started recording," CDC director Dr. Robert Redfield recently told CBS News. "And a majority of those children were not vaccinated." 

Getting a flu shot can make you feel a little weird in the hours and days after you get pricked: common side effects include headache, fever, nausea, and achiness. But far from being a bad thing, those mild symptoms are a signal your body is likely developing immunity to new strains of the flu. Think of them as an immune system dress rehearsal for the real fight against the dangerous viruses you may come in contact with later in the season. 

You can create a healthier workspace by staying home when you're sick, and encouraging others to do the same

Aside from getting your flu vaccine, another important thing you can do to keep the population healthy this winter is stay home when you feel sick.

"If you can just reduce the number of infected people you can come into contact with during a flu season, you do clearly reduce your likelihood of getting infected," Webby said.

Still, it is nearly impossible to avoid exposure to the flu entirely. Certain people can carry around flu germs while displaying no symptoms, and others have developed immunity to the flu bugs that circulate this year from their previous exposures. This means not every flu virus will get everyone sick, and not every case of the flu will be easy to spot.

While there's no way to zero out your risk of getting sick, you can help keep yourself and others healthy by avoiding colleagues when you're sick, telling them to stay home when they're sick, and getting a shot or flu mist to avoid illness in the first place.

• The aircraft, a brand new Boeing 737 Max, was flying erratically on Monday morning as well.
• But Lion Air decided to keep it in the skies. It crashed 13 minutes into its next journey with 189 people on board.
• Officials found a black box from that flight on Thursday and hope that it will provide answers to what happened.

A pilot flying the Lion Air jet which crashed into the sea made a distress call minutes after takeoff on the previous day, but pressed on anyway.

The pilot of the plane, which flew from Bali on Sunday night, made an urgent "Pan-Pan" call to signal technical problems with the aircraft, and requested to return to the island, Reuters reported.

"Pan-Pan" is one step down from "Mayday," which signals severe distress.

Th pilot made the call but later updated the control tower to say that the plane was flying normally and he would not return to the airport, Reuters said. It cited Bali airport official Herson, who, like many Indonesians, goes by one name.

The pilot pushed on with his flight and continued on with his journey from Bali to Jakarta, Herson said.

The aircraft on Sunday flew erratically and had unreliable airspeed readings. Passengers on that flight say it was so bad that people were vomiting.

Lion Air JT610 crashed into the Java Sea 13 minutes after takeoff despite requesting a return to base two minutes into the flight.

Indonesian investigators found a black box from the downed JT 610 flight on Thursday morning. Officials hope that it will help explain what happened to the jet.

After the game, Rose's teammates piled on him, a sign of their disbelief, while Rose broke into tears, a sign of his.

Meanwhile, on social media, some of the league's biggest names congratulated the 30-year-old guard.

Tearful during a postgame interview, Rose said he worked his "ass off" to get back to the court. Playing on a one-year contract with the Wolves, Rose's performance may have been enough to convince other teams that he's still worth a roster spot once this season ends.
