Up-and-coming player enters networking scene

MeetAdvisors, an up-and-coming player in the networking game, has only been around for a few months but is already making its presence known. Within weeks of launching, Larry Myler from Forbes signed up as a member and touted the site on his blog, calling MeetAdvisors as the “Yelp for entrepreneurs.”

It works like this: an expert signs up as an advisor and answers questions entrepreneurs ask through a moderated web portal that grants both parties a degree of anonymity. Questions are answered, relationships are built, and after the free advice has been granted the entrepreneur writes a review about their experience.

This brainchild is Adam Fridman’s, a man who has been in the startup world for ten years. The light bulb went off when Fridman was at a networking event and noticed an intellectual property lawyer who charges $400 per hour sitting alone. Realizing this was because startup novices were too bashful to approach him, Fridman set about designing a website that would take the pressure off both sides, and launched MeetAdvisors on December 1, 2012.

It’s just over four months later, and the site is expected to hit 300 Advisors and 1000 Entrepreneurs by the end of March. What’s their long-term plan?

“I want people to be able to say they’re ranked high on MeetAdvisors and for that to mean something,” said Fridman.
