monaco

The beginning of fall is marked by some very specific things. The leaves change color, the temperature drops, school begins for many, and of course, a myriad of new trends inundate every fashion blog, store, and online shop. It is easy to be tempted — or overwhelmed — by all of the options. You might be wondering things like which pieces are actually worth the money, which will be out of style come 2019, and which will actually have long-term staying power in your wardrobe.

I find myself in this predicament often, now more than ever as I attempt to make my wardrobe less excessive and able to fit in a much smaller New York City closet. There are some pieces that circle back every fall like skinny jeans, trench coats, and booties. Sometimes these take on more modern interpretations, but they're classics nonetheless.

With fall quickly approaching, we curated a list of the season's most timeless pieces for women, the ones you will want to wear year after year. So, whether you're trying to keep your seasonal wardrobe down to the basics or looking for some new pieces to add to your collection, this list has got you and your closet covered.

Check out 35 timeless fall fashion staples for women below:

A jacket that can handle unexpected weather

Barbour Beadnell Waxed Cotton Jacket, $399

Fall promises some cool relief after a hot summer, but fall weather (especially in the northeast) can be pretty erratic. One day you're basking in the sunlight of 60 degree weather and the next you wake up to a blizzard— this is not an exaggeration, it happened to me when I lived in Upstate New York. Getting dressed is significantly more difficult when you don't know what weather fall will throw at you, but luckily this Barbour jacket can withstand it all. It is made with waxed-cotton, corrosion-proof zippers, and double-stitched seams to give you a weatherproof finish that is super practical, but attractive too.

A basic black cardigan

Halogen Long Open Cardigan, $79, available at Nordstrom

A black cardigan is the perfect item to throw-over any outfit when you need some extra warmth or to cover your shoulders. Find one that is thin enough to easily transition between seasons. This is the ultimate everyday layering piece and it comes in a variety of neutrals, so you can find one that best matches your wardrobe.

A fun blouse

Banana Republic Stretch-Crepe Wrap-Front Top, $68

You should have a few blouses that are comfortable, work-appropriate, and easy for everyday wear. This one can easily be tucked into jeans or trousers for a more casual or formal look, respectively. Polka-dots are a fun way to add pattern while still staying within a neutral color palette.

Stop what you're doing and listen to 'Mooo' — the song of the summer that's about a woman being a cow

bitch i'm a cow

  • The song of the summer is here.
  • It is Doja Cat's latest: "Mooo," or as it's known around the internet, "B---- I'm a Cow."
  • This is an objective truth.
  • Not only is it an original bop, but it also recalls classic songs like the nursery rhyme "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," Kelis' "Milkshake," and Ludacris' "Move B----" for a powerful nostalgic effect.
  • Listen and see for yourself.

If there's one thing to improve a summer riddled with feverish celebrity engagements it's a song that captures our cultural moment.

And you can now rest easy because the song of the summer is here. Please, stop whatever you're doing and listen to Doja Cat's latest: "Mooo," or as it's known around the internet, "B---- I'm a Cow."

Doja Cat, née Amala Zandile Dlamini, is a 22-year-old singer, songwriter, and rapper, based out of Los Angeles, California — and she's one to watch.

The music video for her song, which was seemingly shot on Photobooth, is an instant classic. As are the single's lyrics — take, for example, the chorus.

"I go mooo/ Mooo Mooo Mooo/ Yeah I say B----, I'm too smooth I'm not in the mood/ Tryna make moves," she croons, in a way that will sure to be stuck on your head in an endless loop.

Doja Cat also invokes a certain kind of nostalgia by recalling lyrics from classic songs like the nursery rhyme "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," Kelis' "Milkshake," and Ludacris' "Move B----" and turning them on their heads.

Also, have you ever before seen a woman dressed as a cow, eating a burger, in front of a green screen of cows, all while singing about being a cow? Well, in case you have not yet watched the video, which is iconic in its own right, now you have.

bitch i'm a cow

"B---- I'm a Cow" is a classic. It's a bop. These are objective facts.

Not sold? Well, these are fan reactions to prove it.

If, hypothetically speaking, the Grammys were to introduce a new category for Best Popular Song, it seems pretty likely that "B---- I'm a Cow" would take home the gold. No exaggeration.

This is a preview of a research report from Business Insider Intelligence, Business Insider's premium research service. To learn more about Business Insider Intelligence, click here.

Edge computing solutions are key tools that help companies grapple with rising data volumes across industries. These types of solutions are critical in allowing companies to gain more control over the data their IoT devices create and in reducing their reliance on (and the costs of) cloud computing.

edge popularity

These systems are becoming more sought-after — 40% of companies that provide IoT solutions reported that edge computing came up more in discussion with customers in 2017 than the year before, according to Business Insider Intelligence’s 2017 Global IoT Executive Survey. But companies need to know whether they should look into edge computing solutions, and what in particular they can hope to gain from shifting data processing and analysis from the cloud to the edge.

There are three particular types of problems that edge computing solutions are helping to combat across industries:

  • Security issues. Edge computing can limit the exposure of critical data by minimizing how often it’s transmitted. Further, they pre-process data, so there’s less data to secure overall.
  • Access issues. These systems help to provide live insights regardless of whether there’s a network connection available, greatly expanding where companies and organizations can use connected devices and the data they generate.
  • Transmission efficiency. Edge computing solutions process data where it’s created so less needs to be sent to the cloud, leading to lower cloud storage requirements and reduced transmission cost.

In this report, Business Insider Intelligence examines how edge computing is reducing companies' reliance on cloud computing in three key industries: healthcare, telecommunications, and the automotive space. We explore how these systems mitigate issues in each sector by helping to efficiently process growing troves of data, expanding the potential realms of IoT solutions a company can offer, and bringing enhanced computing capability to remote and mobile platforms.

Here are some key takeaways from the report:

  • In healthcare, companies and organizations are using edge computing to improve telemedicine and remote monitoring capabilities.
  • For telecommunications companies, edge computing is helping to reduce network congestion and enabling a shift toward the IoT platform market.
  • And in the automotive space, edge computing systems are enabling companies to increase the capabilities of connected cars and trucks and approach autonomy.

In full, the report:

  • Explores the key advantages edge computing solutions can provide.
  • Highlights the circumstances when companies should look into edge systems.
  • Identifies key vendors and partners in specific industries while showcasing case studies of successful edge computing programs.

Here's where you should sit on your next flight, according to a flight attendant

vietjet flight attendant

Even if you aren’t afraid of flying, you can acknowledge that being on an airplane is never exactly comfortable. Airplane seats are notoriously small and cramped, the temperature is always either freezing cold or way too warm, you have very little control over the amount of noise and light that surrounds you, and you’re basically trapped in one area for hours at a time. Sitting in first class can make things better, but of course, that is not an option everyone can afford.

Luckily, there are some more affordable ways to get as comfortable as you can on an airplane, and they all revolve around picking the right seat.

The kind of seat you choose can have a huge impact on your comfort level during your flight, whether you’re looking for an area that is quieter or you simply want more legroom. If you don’t fly a lot, picking the right seat can seem overwhelming.

INSIDER spoke with Hawaiian Airlines flight attendant Kaipo Kauka to get a better idea of the best seat to choose depending on the experience you’re looking for.

If you want to sleep through most of the flight, choose a window seat.

Sleeping is ideal during a flight, especially a very long one. Unfortunately, it can also be tough to get a decent amount of it when you're constantly adjusting yourself and trying to find a comfortable position. Kauka recommends choosing a window seat if you know you need some shut-eye.

He said, "I like using the window as something to lean on. Your seat neighbor will thank you for not leaning on them instead."

Pick a window seat away from the kitchen area if you need silence.

Whether you want to get some uninterrupted sleep or just want a quiet flight, Kauka said to stay away from the "kitchen" area of the plane.

He pointed out, "Flight attendants work in the galleys during the flight and it can get noisy."

Choose an aisle seat if you know you'll be using the bathroom a lot.

Can't hold it in for very long? Do yourself - and your seatmates - a favor, and pick an aisle seat. And if you would prefer to keep an eye on the lines, Kauka said, "You can use the aircraft seat map if you want to book a seat close to a lavatory as well."

'It should gravely worry all Americans ... about the cost of speaking out': Former CIA Director John Brennan reacts to Trump revoking his security clearance

  • Former CIA director John Brennan reacted Tuesday to news that the White House had revoked his security clearance, accusing him of "erratic conduct and behavior."

  • "This action is part of a broader effort by Mr. Trump to suppress freedom of speech & punish critics," he wrote on Twitter. "It should gravely worry all Americans, including intelligence professionals, about the cost of speaking out."
  • He later told MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace that such a politically motivated action was something he had seen from "foreign tyrants, despots, and autocrats" throughout his career.

Former CIA director John Brennan, who led the agency from 2013 to 2017, is reacting to the White House's Wednesday afternoon announcement that President Donald Trump was taking away his security clearance.

"This action is part of a broader effort by Mr. Trump to suppress freedom of speech & punish critics. It should gravely worry all Americans, including intelligence professionals, about the cost of speaking out," Brennan tweeted. "My principles are worth far more than clearances. I will not relent."

Brennan told MSNBC Deadline host Nicolle Wallace that he was completely blindsided by the move, only finding out from White House press secretary Sarah Sanders' afternoon press briefing instead of first being contacted by Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats or CIA Director Gina Haspel.

"Revoking my security clearances is his way of trying to get back at me," Brennan said. "I think I have tried to voice the concerns of millions of Americans about Mr. Trump's failures, in terms of fulfilling the responsibilities of that sacred and solemn office of the presidency."

Brennan has been a prominent and outspoken critic of Trump's approach to foreign policy and national security. He even called Trump seemingly siding with Moscow over the US intelligence community during his summit with Russian president Vladimir Putin "treasonous."

On Monday, Brennan tweeted that Trump "will never understand what it means to be president, nor what it takes to be a good, decent, & honest person" in response to the President referring to ex-White House staffer Omarosa Manigault-Newman as a "crazed, crying lowlife" and "a dog."

"I've seen this type of behavior and actions on the parts of foreign tyrants, despots, and autocrats for many, many years during my CIA and national security career," he told Wallace of Trump's revocation, adding, "I never, ever thought I'd see it here in the United States."

Brennan said he's worried Trump is sending a message to other former and current officials with security clearances that they shouldn't say critical things about the president.

Trump also said he was considering revoking the clearance of several other former intelligence and law-enforcement officials — many of whom have been critical of him — in the coming weeks.

Those people include former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former FBI director James Comey, former NSA director Michael Hayden, former acting attorney general Sally Yates, former national security adviser Susan Rice, former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe, former FBI agent Peter Strzok, FBI lawyer Lisa Page, and Justice Department official Bruce Ohr.

"If Mr. Trump believes that this is going to lead me to just go away and be quiet, he is very badly mistaken," Brennan said on MSNBC.

I swapped my Android for an iPhone, and it had a surprising effect on my relationships

  • I had no idea that having an Android while living in the west would be such an inconvenience.
  • In finding myself in many frustrating situations, being without an iPhone, I decided to make the switch about a year ago.
  • Since converting, I’ve found how much of an impact it has had on my relationships, my time, and even my productivity at work.

When I moved to the west coast two years ago, it seemed like I was the only one without an iPhone versus when I was in the midwest and many of my friends had Androids. Quickly, I realized the inconvenience not only for myself but also for my new friends and my coworkers.

After about a year, I decided to make the switch to iPhone and here a few reasons why it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made.

Switching has allowed me to connect better with my friends.

gossip girl cell phone

I hadn’t realized the wonders of iMessage until I made the switch. I’d surely heard of it since most of my friends on the west coast had iPhones and that was something they commonly used amongst themselves.

But when I finally bought my own iPhone, I could see why they loved it. With iMessage, it was like I was back in high school using AIM — the instant messaging was so convenient and allowed for quicker conversations with a greater exchange of information.

And then I discovered FaceTime. It was a huge breakthrough in my relationships, allowing me to see and hear from family and friends across the country and better connect with them than over a bad phone connection.

I no longer felt like an inconvenience.

Having an Android occasionally inconvenienced my friends because I couldn't receive group texts in full and wasn't able to use the "Share Contact" or the "Share Location" features.

These features were often necessary for group events I was a part of and made coordinating a lot more difficult with an Android. For instance, if someone was sharing a contact with me, I wasn't able to receive the information and therefore, needed to ask them to type out the info and resend it as a text message.

AirDrop is everything.

girl taking picture phone selfie photo hat skirt coachella

I have to say I truly am in love with the AirDrop feature of the iPhone. I constantly struggled to save space on my Android and so was endlessly needing to connect my phone to my laptop with a USB cable to transfer photos and notes.

With AirDrop, all my troubles are gone. In just a few clicks, I can move my notes, photos, documents, voice memos, etc. over to my laptop usually in just a few minutes.

It has also made it easier to swap photos with friends and family. That way, they can just AirDrop them to me immediately rather than texting the images to me one by one.

My iPhone has helped me immensely at work.

One of the first conveniences I noticed when I switched to the iPhone was being able to use AirDrop, iMessage, and even FaceTime with coworkers because all of my colleagues had iPhones. It allowed me to stay in better communication with them, especially for work events.

I also was able to receive and download files needed for work when I made the switch. I often found that my Android couldn't support certain document formats that coworkers would send my way, which lowered my productivity.

Now, my coworkers and I can easily send files to one another when I'm running work errands and we commonly use AirDrop rather than email files.

It was hard initially to adjust to the iPhone's home button and I do miss the Android's keyboard.

Swype android app

I will say that when I bought my first iPhone, I had a hard time adjusting to the single home button on my iPhone from having multiple buttons on the bottom of my Android.

I found myself searching for the back button or hitting the Home button as a back button, which was extremely frustrating at times. But after a couple of months, I finally adjusted and wouldn't have it any other way.

Further, although I've now adjusted to the iPhone keyboard, I must admit that I do miss Swype, a feature originally created for Android that allows you to type without lifting a finger. It made it so easy to text with barely having to look at my phone. Plus, I only had to use one hand, which was very convenient for multitasking.

Unfortunately, Swype has now been discontinued on both Android and iPhone as of February 2018 so I suppose I'm not missing out.

(I want to note that previously, I was using an older version of the Android, which may have had an effect on why switching over to the iPhone was the best choice for me.)

Dozens of people reportedly overdosed on synthetic marijuana in a Connecticut park in a single day

new haven green overdoses 2

  • More than 30 people overdosed in New Haven, Connecticut between Tuesday night and Wednesday.
  • Most of the calls came in Wednesday morning on the New Haven Green.
  • Police believe the victims may have smoked synthetic marijuana laced with the super-strong opioid Fentanyl.
  • A 37-year-old "person of interest" has been taken into custody in connection with the rash of overdoses.

A rash of overdoses swept New Haven, Connecticut on Wednesday morning, sending more than 30 people to the hospital.

The majority of the calls came from the New Haven Green, where scores of people were found passed out on the ground or vomiting.

Police believe that the synthetic marijuana K2 may be to blame. They say the K2 was likely laced with an opioid such as Fentanyl, since patients responded to larger-than-usual doses of the anti-overdose medication Narcan at the hospital. Others in the park told police that the K2 may have been laced with the hallucinogenic PCP.

But investigators won't know for sure what sparked the overdoses until toxicology tests come back.

new haven overdoses 3

None of the patients have died. But one to two patients are in life-threatening condition, according to reports from WFSB and CNN.

As of Wednesday afternoon, police told the Register that they had arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the mass overdose incident.

The "person of interest"— who is not being named yet — was known to police, had drugs on him, and was out on parole.

The overdose outbreak started Tuesday night, when three people overdosed on the New Haven Green.

But the bulk of calls started coming in just before 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning and continued for an hour.

Throughout the rest of the day, there was a steady stream of patients, both in the park and other parts of the city.

new haven green overdoses

When ambulances were responding to the scene, they passed other passed-out victims on the ground.

Some of the patients ended up overdosing twice.

"As we were trying to pick up from the upper green, we ended up with two additional victims on the lower green, one of which was a victim we had from this morning, so we're not sure if he used another substance of if there is a lingering effect of what he used earlier on," New Haven Fire Chief John Alston said, according to WFSB.

YNNH Center for EMS Medical Director Sandy Bogucki told the New Haven Register that paramedics were having "to run and then resuscitate and then having to transport faster than they might normally to turn around and get the cars back out."

According to the Register, as many as 39 overdoses happened in total. Of those, 34 were taken to the hospital and five refused treatment.

One of the overdose calls actually came in as New Haven Police Chief Anthony Campbell was giving a press conference to update the public on the mass casualty incident.

The Drug Enforcement Administration has been notified of the incident.

Everything we know about 'Riverdale' season 3

josie kevin riverdale season two

"Riverdale" has some new surprises in store for season three.

The hit CW drama left Archie's future up-in-the air after he was arrested for a murder he didn't commit, but season three promises a three-month time jump that will put his trial front and center at the beginning of the new season. And though the Black Hood was caught at the end of season two, he's not off the show for good.

With the new episodes comes new romances and the introduction of at least five characters, two of which will be Jughead's sister and mom.

While fans wait in anticipation for the October 10th premiere, here's what we know about season three so far.

There may be a wedding episode.

During a TV Critics Association panel in August, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said there may be a wedding episode that "involves a certain ex-mayor and a certain ex-sheriff." That means Josie's mom, Sierra McCoy, and Kevin's dad, Tom Keller, could be getting hitched after their affair was discovered on the second season.

Casey Cott (Kevin) and Ashleigh Murray (Josie) also told FanSided at San Diego Comic-Con that their families are moving in together.

Kevin and Moose are dating.

After finally kissing at the end of season two, Kevin and Moose are in a relationship. Casey Cott, who plays Kevin, told FanSided that it won't be simple, because Moose is still closeted.

"Kevin, romantically, has a boyfriend who's not quite out of the closet so that's confusing and dark in its own way," he said.

A flashback episode will feature the main teens playing their parents.

At the TV Critics Association panel in August, Aguirre-Sacasa said the fourth episode of the season will be a dark take on "The Breakfast Club." Titled "The Midnight Club," the main teens will play high school versions of their parents.

That results in KJ Apa as Fred Andrews (Luke Perry), Camila Mendes as Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols), Cole Sprouse as FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich), Lili Reinhart as Alice Cooper (Mädchen Amick), and Madelaine Petsch as Penelope Blossom (Nathalie Boltt).

The episode will reportedly reveal a secret the parents have all been hiding since their school years.

Kellyanne Conway said her husband's anti-Trump tweets were 'a violation of basic decency' if not their 'marital vows' — but wanted to be identified as 'a person familiar with their relationship'

Kellyanne Conway

  • White House counselor Kellyanne Conway told a reporter that her husband's anti-Trump tweets were "disrespectful" and "a violation of basic decency," but she only wanted to be quoted on background.
  • The reporter refused.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway recently shared some strong words about her husband's viral anti-Trump tweets with a reporter, but only wanted to be quoted as "a person familiar with their relationship."

Washington Post reporter Ben Terris published an extensive profile of the dynamic between Conway and her husband, conservative lawyer George Conway, on Tuesday. It was the first story in which the two opened up about how President Donald Trump has complicated their relationship.

For more than a year, George has been publicly critical of the president on Twitter, while Kellyanne is often on TV defending him. In the Post profile, George, who introduced Kellyanne to Trump, said he now wishes he never did.

Kellyanne, meanwhile, said she believes there is a part of George "that thinks I chose Donald Trump over him," which she said "is ridiculous."

But asked about her husband's anti-Trump tweets, Conway said they are "disrespectful."

"I think it disrespects his wife," she said.

A few days later, Terris circled back on the remark. And Kellyanne expanded on her thoughts.

"It is disrespectful, it's a violation of basic decency, certainly, if not marital vows," she said, then asking to have that quote attributed to "a person familiar with their relationship."

Terris refused, saying they were on the record during this portion of the discussion.

"You can't say after the fact 'as someone familiar,'" Terris said.

"I told you everything about his tweets was off the record," Kellyanne responded.

"No, that's not true," Terris said. "That never happened."

Kellyanne pivoted to framing her original comment not as her own thoughts, but of how other people view her husband's tweets.

"Well, people do see it this way," she said. "People do see it that way, I don't say I do, but people see it that way."

"I've never actually said what I think about it and I won't say what I think about it, which tells you what I think about it," she added.

For his part, George disagreed with her assessment, saying Kellyanne's "problem is with her boss, not me."

"If my wife were the counselor to the CEO of Pepsi and I had a problem with her boss, I would simply drink my Coke and keep my mouth shut," he said. "If the president were simply mediocre or even bad, I'd have nothing to say. This is much different."

A couple was denied access to the Statue of Liberty because they were wearing 'Abolish ICE' T-shirts

  • Last month, a New York City couple was denied access to the Statue of Liberty because they were wearing T-shirts that said "Abolish ICE,"Gothamist reports.
  • The National Parks Service has now said that not allowing the couple to complete their prepaid tour was a "misstep," per the outlet.
  • Tiffany Huang told Gothamist she'd never been to the monument before, but felt compelled to make a statement following the Trump administration's controversial family separation policy.
  • Afterward, the couple contacted the New York Civil Liberties Union, who got in contact with the NPS.
  • The couple will return the statue on Friday, Huang said.

Last month, a New York City couple was denied access to the Statue of Liberty because they were wearing T-shirts that said "Abolish ICE,"Gothamist reports.

Tiffany Huang and her fiancé were visiting the monument on a pre-paid tour on July 14, she told the outlet. But as they approached the statute, security officials ordered them to take off their homemade "Abolish Ice" T-Shirts. When they refused, the officers told them to leave, according to Gothamist.

The National Parks Service has now said that not allowing the couple to complete their prepaid tour was a "misstep," per the outlet.

Huang and her fiancé wore the T-shirts because they felt they "needed to acknowledge the symbolism of visiting the Statue of Liberty" in light of the Trump administration's controversial family separation policy, she told Gothamist.

"We did not have any plans for any other sort of action — just exercising our right to free speech," Huang said.

But when she and her fiancé approached the statue via ferry they were stopped by security guards.

"A second security person came over to tell us he couldn't let us on the tour with our shirts," Huang, a Ph.D. student at Columbia University, told Gothamist. He said it was our 'choice' to either change or put on clothes over our t-shirts, or leave. So we said we would rather leave, and another security person walked us back out through security."

Huang told Gothamist the guards justified their rejection from the Statue of Liberty, which is a state park, with "what happened on July 4th." The guard was seemingly referring to Therese Patricia Okoumou, the woman who scaled the Statue of Liberty on July 4, refusing to come down until "all the children are released."

Afterward, the couple contacted the New York Civil Liberties Union, who got in contact with the National Parks Service, per Gothamist.

According to the NYCLU, what happened the couple at the statue could be considered what's called viewpoint discrimination. Viewpoint discrimination, according to Cornell Law School's Legal Information Institute, refers to the idea that "the government may not discriminate against speakers based on their views."

"Prohibiting would-be visitors to the Statue of Liberty from accessing the nation's most prominent public symbol of welcoming immigrants simply because of the message on their shirts violates our most sacred values," NYCLU staff attorney Jordan Wells told INSIDER. "We're glad that the Parks Service has recognized the error."

The couple has been refunded for their tickets — and has been given the opportunity to return to the monument, Gothamist reports. And they said yes.

Huang told the outlet the couple will go back to the Statue of Liberty on Friday — and they'll be wearing the same "Abolish ICE" shirts.

A representative for the National Parks Service did not immediately return INSIDER's request for comment.

  • After missing one putt that would have gotten him to the number, Snedeker sunk a 20-foot birdie on his final hole of the round to enter the history books.

Brandt Snedeker played the round of his life at the Wyndham Championship on Thursday, posting an 11-under to become just the ninth golfer in PGA Tour history to post a score of 59.

Snedeker had opened the round with a bogey, but righted the ship quickly and went an unconscious 8-under over his final nine holes to reach the historic mark.

For Snedeker, who started his round on the 10th hole, the most critical shot of his round came at the par-4 sixth, where he holed out from a whopping 176 yards out. There was no bounce and no backspin — he just took his seven iron and dunked his ball right into the hole.

That shot brought Snedeker to 9-under on the round with three holes left to play, needing two more birdies to join the 59 club.

He birdied the seventh, and barely missed his birdie putt on the eighth, meaning it would all come down to the final hole. On the ninth green, Snedeker stared down the 20-foot birdie that stood between him and history, and sent it home.

Snedeker's 11-under put him five strokes ahead of the field after one round, but more importantly, puts him amongst some of the greatest rounds in golf history.

Meeting with the media after the round, Snedeker was clearly still struck by the moment.

Snedeker tees off again at 12:40 p.m. on Friday when he will attempt to add to his already impressive lead.

SEC reportedly investigating whether Elon Musk tried to hurt short-sellers with his 'funding secured' tweet (TSLA)

  • The Securities and Exchange Commission is reportedly investigating whether Tesla CEO Elon Musk was attempting to hurt the company's short-sellers when he tweeted about taking the company private, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The Securities and Exchange Commission is reportedly investigating whether Tesla CEO Elon Musk was attempting to hurt the company's short-sellers when he tweeted about taking the company private, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The agency is reportedly asking Tesla's board of directors what Musk told them before he tweeted that he had secured the funding to convert Tesla into a private company, were the proposal to pass a shareholder vote.

Fox Business and The New York Times reported on Wednesday that the SEC had sent subpoenas to Tesla concerning the company's plans to explore going private and Musk's statements about the process.

The Fox Business reporter Charles Gasparino said on Twitter that sources suggested the agency was moving into a formal investigation of Tesla. Gasparino also said SEC officials had concerns about how the agency's investigation could affect Tesla's ability to go private.

Tesla and the SEC declined Business Insider's requests for comment.

On August 7, Musk expressed his desire to take Tesla private in a now-controversial tweet.

"Am considering taking Tesla private at $420. Funding secured," Musk said via Twitter.

Some were confused in the hours and days following the tweet, since Musk did not initially disclose who might provide the funding he mentioned.

Musk said in a statement on Monday that he used the phrase "funding secured" because he believed there was "no question" Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund would provide funding for a deal to convert Tesla into a private company. He made the announcement via Twitter, he said, because he wanted all Tesla investors to know about the possibility of Tesla going private at the same time.

But Musk didn't mention any legally binding agreements that were in place at the time he sent the "funding secured" tweet, and he also said he was in discussions with other investors, which suggested some sources of funding may not have been settled before the tweet was sent.

Musk said all relevant parties would be able to review a proposal before a decision was made about going private. He said a proposal would not be presented, however, until discussions with potential investors were finished.

The Saudi sovereign wealth fund first met with Musk early last year about taking Tesla private, Musk said, adding that they'd met multiple times. After the fund purchased about 5% of Tesla's shares, it requested another meeting with Musk, which Musk said took place July 31. Musk said that during this meeting the fund's managing director "strongly expressed his support" to contribute funding to take Tesla private.

Musk notified Tesla's board of directors of his desire to take Tesla private on August 2, he said. But The New York Times reported on Monday that Musk's "funding secured" tweet surprised the board, which it said had not approved the tweet. According to The Times, Musk told an informal adviser he sent the tweet because he had difficulty keeping information to himself and was frustrated with the company's critics.

The Times later reported that some board members had hired lawyers to protect themselves from the potential legal fallout of Musk's statements and urged Musk to stop using Twitter. Three lawsuits have been filed against Tesla and Musk alleging securities fraud.

On Tuesday, Tesla said its board of directors had formed a special committee to consider any forthcoming go-private proposals.

Tesla has been public since 2010, but Musk has previously said he would like to take Tesla private.

"I wish we could be private with Tesla," Musk said in an interview with Rolling Stone published in November. "It actually makes us less efficient to be a public company."

Last week, Musk said taking the company private was "the best path forward." He said the pressures of being a public company created distractions and promoted short-term thinking that may not produce the best decisions in the long term.

Musk has also said on multiple occasions that Tesla would become profitable by the end of this year and would not need to raise additional funds, despite its increased cash-burn rate in recent quarters.

At the end of June, Tesla said it achieved its goal of making 5,000 Model 3 sedans in one week. Musk previously said that the company would hit that number by the end of 2017 and that sustaining such a production rate was critical for Tesla to become profitable.

royal family tree

  • The royal family tree of Britain's monarchy is enormous and complicated.
  • The more famous royals, like Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William, and Prince Harry— who married American actress Meghan Markle — are easily recognizable to most people.
  • But there's a whole host of distant cousins that are part of the British royal family tree chart.
  • Here's a look at some of the other families that are descended from King George V — the UK's first Windsor king.

The royal family tree of Britain's monarchy is quite a thing to behold.

King George V, the first monarch from Britain's House of Windsor, and his wife Mary of Teck had six children. Four of those offspring proceeded to have kids of their own.

As a result, well-known royals like 4-year-old Prince George of Cambridge and his younger siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have tons and tons of less-famous cousins.

The House of Windsor is a relatively young dynasty — it will turn 101 years old on July 17. King George V, a grandson of Queen Victoria, inherited the throne in 1910. Like his father King Edward VII, he was a member of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. The German dynasty was injected into the British monarchy by Albert, Prince Consort, the husband of Queen Victoria.

But by 1917, English attitudes towards Germany had soured considerably, thanks to the First World War.

In response to rising anti-German sentiments, George V decided to make a considerable PR move. He swapped out Saxe-Coburg and Gotha for the far more English-sounding name of Windsor. The royal family's website said the new name was inspired by Windsor Castle — where George V's granddaughter Queen Elizabeth II still resides on weekends.

Here's an in-depth look at the British royal family tree, beginning with the family that started it all:

King George V was the first monarch of the House of Windsor

King George V and his wife Mary of Teck had six children together between 1894 and 1905. One of their children didn't survive into adulthood. Prince John, the baby of the family, had severe epilepsy and a learning disability. He died in 1919 at the age of 13.

Their eldest son, King Edward VIII, inherited the throne upon his father's death in 1936. Had he remained king, Edward VIII's hypothetical descendants would have inherited the British Crown.

But Edward VIII abdicated in 1937 in order to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson. The controversial couple — who were rumored to harbor Nazi sympathies— never had children.

King George VI's descendants dominate the current line of succession

After his older brother's abdication, King George VI took to the throne for a reign of nearly 15 years. He and his wife Queen Elizabeth had two daughters, Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret.

George VI's descendants are set to continue to inherit the throne in the foreseeable future. His eldest daughter Queen Elizabeth II is the longest reigning British monarch in history. Her son Charles, Prince of Wales, is reportedly set to succeed her when she turns 95 in 2021.

The Lascelles family is descended from King George V's only daughter

Mary, Princess Royal, was George V's only daughter.

She had two sons with her husband, Henry Lascelles, 6th Earl of Harewood. The princess's sons went on to produce six grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and nine great great grandchildren. The Earldom of Harewood is still held within the Lascelles family.

The eldest two children of David Lascelles, the current 8th Earl of Harewood, were born before Lascelles married his first wife. They were therefore unable to inherit his title.

Leo Cyrus Anthony Lascelles, the only son of Alexander Lascelles, Viscount Lascelles, is also not eligible to inherit his family's royal title, as his parents were not married at the time of his birth.

  • Donald Trump's old Trump Tower office is a far cry from the Oval Office he now occupies.
  • Most of Trump's decor didn't make the trip to D.C. with him.
  • Business Insider looked into the differences between Trump's two signature workspaces.

Trump Tower and the Oval Office used to seem worlds apart.

But now that Donald Trump is president, they both count as his two signature workspaces.

His Trump Tower office was messy and littered with papers and random collectibles. Unsurprisingly, things tend to look a bit neater in the Oval Office.

Here's a comparison of the two offices:

UK snacks

Those who travel to the UK will be intrigued by a number of things — the variety of accents, the music scene, and the dreary weather, for starters. Beyond those things, however, the most intense culture shock visitors will experience will likely come when they are exposed to the world of British snacks.

While supermarkets in the UK don’t carry popular bites like Goldfish or Cheetos, they do have quite a number of treats and flavors that manage to keep things interesting. Although they may seem odd to the rest of the world, below are just a few of the snacks that Brits love to chow down on at home.

Shrimps and Bananas are not what they sound like.

Perhaps the world's oddest combination, Barratt Shrimps and Bananas gummy candy actually taste like raspberries and bananas.

Walkers crisps come in many flavors.

Essentially the British version of Lays chips, Walkers offers more unique flavors than their American relative, including Prawn Cocktail, Worcester Sauce, Beef and Onion, Roast Chicken, Pickled Onion, and everyone's favorite: Marmite.

Chocolate Digestives aren't as healthy as they sound.

Although the name suggests the snack would be high in fiber and good for getting your system moving, Chocolate Digestives are simply crumbly, chocolate-covered cookies.

The Vatican expresses 'shame and sorrow' over the hundreds of sex abuse allegations described in Pennsylvania grand jury report

  • The Vatican called the sex abuse detailed in the Pennsylvania grand jury report "criminal and morally reprehensible."
  • The Vatican's statement comes days after its press office said that it had "no comment" on the report.
  • The pope has yet to personally respond to the report, which was released on Tuesday.

The Vatican has called the sex abuse described in a grand jury report in Pennsylvania"criminal and morally reprehensible."

A grand jury on Tuesday released a report that accused 300 priests of sexually abusing 1,000 children over the past 70 years as Catholic Church leaders covered up the allegations.

The Vatican's statement comes days after its press office said that it had "no comment"on the report

In a statement released late Thursday, Vatican spokesman Greg Burke said "those acts were betrayals of trust that robbed survivors of their dignity and faith."

He said the words "shame and sorrow" expressed the Vatican's feelings when "faced with these horrible crimes."

"The acts described in the report are criminal and morally reprehensible," Burke said. "Those acts were betrayals of trust that robbed survivors of their dignity and their faith. The Church must learn hard lessons from its past, and there should be accountability for both abusers and those who permitted abuse to occur."

Burke noted that most of the report concerns abuses dating before the early 2000s, which is consistent with studies showing Catholic Church reform in the US had "drastically reduced the incidence of clergy child abuse" in recent years.

He added: "Victims should know that the Pope is on their side. Those who have suffered are his priority, and the Church wants to listen to them to root out this tragic horror that destroys the lives of the innocent."

Pope Francis has not personally responded to the Pennsylvania grand jury report.

Hours after the report was released, the Pope tweeted: "Still today there are so many martyrs, so many who are persecuted for the love of Christ. They are the real strength of the church!"

And at his general audience at St Peter's Square on Wednesday, Pope Francis did not comment on the sex abuse scandal.

I did Disney World's monorail bar crawl — here's why you should too

Disney Monorail

So you’ve already made your way drinking around World Showcase in EPCOT and had a blast. Are you ready for another magical bar crawl in Walt Disney World?

Similar to drinking around the world in EPCOT, the monorail bar crawl isn’t an official bar crawl, however, it’s a great activity for those looking to get their drink on in the happiest place on Earth.

So how does it work? The monorail bar crawl is very simple. Guests travel around the resort monorail loop, which makes stops at the Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Contemporary Resort,  Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney's Polynesian Village Resort and the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC).

Guests get out at each resort on the line and grab a drink at one of the several bars inside. Keep in mind that no alcoholic beverages are allowed on the monorail, so make sure to finish your drinks before boarding.

There is no wrong way to start or end. Personally, I like to end wherever I can have a great view of the Magic Kingdom firework show, Happily Ever After. I think it’s a great way to wrap up your bar crawl.

disney resortMy friends and I started at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is home to two pool bars and Mizner’s Lounge.

Unless you’re staying at the resort and can access the pool, I recommend just making a visit to Mizner’s Lounge. The bar is located on the second floor of the main building, right behind the bandstand where you can take in some music by the Grand Floridian Society Orchestra.

Mizner's LoungeAfter we finished enjoying the Grand Floridian Resort, we boarded the monorail to head on over to Disney’s Contemporary Resort. There are several bar options at the Contemporary Resort. Guests can grab a quick cocktail at the Outer Rim or travel to the top floor and visit the California Grill Lounge. The California Grill is extremely popular and has some of the best views of the Magic Kingdom.

Monorail bar crawl

The Wave is not only a great stop to try some organic beer or world-class wine, but it is home to the brand new Seven Seas Lagoon Fishbowl.

Fishbowl

It’s a whole lot of flavor for just $22 making it the perfect drink to share with your friends and definitely a must-have drink while completing the monorail bar crawl.

Disney bar crawl monorailI always think the Polynesian Village Resort is the best place to finish not only because it is one of my favorite places to watch the fireworks, but I think that their two bars, the Tambu Lounge and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto offer the most delicious cocktails.disney kona pineapple cocktail Nothing will scream "paradise" more than this blend of Myer’s Original Dark Rum, Bacardi 151 Rum, fruit juices all in a huge pineapple shell topped off with a tiny umbrella. The drink is also offered at the Kona Cafe, which is a great dining option for anyone who wants to sit down for dinner during your bar crawl.

Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto is a great place to finish your bar crawl because it is one of the most unique experiences in Disney World. Many of their signature cocktails bring this tiki bar to life including an indoor erupting volcano, an angry goddess and some hilarious shenanigans from the bartenders. Additionally, the bar has an outdoor section, which is ideal for taking in the fireworks on those cool nights.

Whatever order you decide to go in or bars you decide to visit during your monorail bar crawl, remember to have fun and drink responsibly.

'You have embarrassed us in the eyes of our children': Navy SEAL who oversaw the Osama bin Laden raid rebukes Trump in stunning opinion column

  • Retired US Navy admiral William McRaven, a former US Navy SEAL who oversaw the raid that took out al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in 2011, delivered a stunning rebuke of President Donald Trump.
  • McRaven said he would "consider it an honor" if Trump revoked his security clearance, following his decision to revoke former CIA director John Brennan's security clearance.

The man who oversaw the raid that took out al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden delivered a stunning rebuke of President Donald Trump amid the White House's decision to revoke former CIA director John Brennan's security clearance.

In an opinion column published by The Washington Post on Thursday, retired US Navy admiral William McRaven, a former US Navy SEAL and commander of the US Joint Special Operations Command, described Brennan as "one of the finest public servants."

"He is a man of unparalleled integrity, whose honesty and character have never been in question, except by those who don't know him."

On Wednesday, the White House announced it would revoke Brennan's security clearance, citing his "erratic conduct and behavior," and questioning his "objectivity and credibility."

"Mr. Brennan's lying and recent conduct, characterized by increasingly frenzied commentary, is wholly inconsistent with access to the Nation's most closely held secrets and facilitates the very aim of our adversaries, which is to sow division and chaos," the White House's statement said.

John Brennan CIA

Brennan, who had been critical of the Trump administration prior to the White House's decision, said that the move was "part of a broader effort by Mr. Trump to suppress freedom of speech & punish critics."

"It should gravely worry all Americans, including intelligence professionals, about the cost of speaking out," Brennan said on Twitter. "My principles are worth far more than clearances. I will not relent."

McRaven appeared to concur with Brennan in his brief, but critical, column.

"Therefore, I would consider it an honor if you would revoke my security clearance as well, so I can add my name to the list of men and women who have spoken up against your presidency," McRaven wrote.

McRaven continued by describing the qualities of a good leader; characteristics he said he "hoped" that Trump would embody after becoming president.

"A good leader sets the example for others to follow," McRaven said. "A good leader always puts the welfare of others before himself or herself."

"Your leadership, however, has shown little of these qualities," McRaven said. "Through your actions, you have embarrassed us in the eyes of our children, humiliated us on the world stage and, worst of all, divided us as a nation."

McRaven retired from the Navy in 2014 after 36 years of service as a Navy SEAL. He was hired as chancellor of the University of Texas' school system in 2015. In 2017, McRaven announced he would leave the school, citing health concerns.
